Created in partnership with the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti and the City of Ypsilanti, meal service started in 1974 in the greater Ypsilanti area, and over the years, YMOW has expanded services now delivering over 127,000 meals per year.
After a decade of service, the President & CEO of YMOW is transitioning to lead a larger Meals on Wheels program, creating an opportunity for an experienced, passionate executive leader to fulfill the mission of providing nutritious meals, social contact, and other services to the homebound elderly, ill and disabled in eastern Washtenaw County, to enable them to enjoy healthier, safer, and more independent lives.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO is an ambassador and advocate for the mission of YMOW.
The President & CEO is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission through relevant programs, strategic planning, and community outreach, as well as meeting financial objectives and oversight of the operations of the organization.
Key
Responsibilities:
Strategy and Program Development Collaborate with Board in execution of vision and strategies Provide leadership in developing strategic, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in issues facing older adults, public health and government funding requirements Fundraising and Community Partnerships Craft the YMOW value proposition and drive significant growth in fundraising success Provide leadership and collaboration to Development Manager, ensuring goals are clear and progress is measured regularly Identify and execute approach to grant applications; direct the grant writing process, including personally writing grant applications, as-needed Collaborate with partners and community agencies to leverage the mission and pursue solutions Exceptional relationship management with funders, partners and stakeholders Internal and External Communications Communicate with the Board to ensure they are fully informed on all activities and matters of importance to the mission of YMOW Report metrics against goals, with input from Board Members and Committees; alert Board Members to concerns about financial and other impacts Publicize the activities of YMOW, its programs and goals.
Represent the programs and point of view of YMOW to agencies, clients, community groups and the general public; establish sound working relationships with outside entities Oversee production of all relevant collateral and communication vehicles (Annual Report, website, social media) Team Relations/Supervision Build a high-performing, mission-driven team.
Responsible for the recruitment, coaching, and performance management of team members Ensure that responsibilities are clearly documented, regular evaluations are held, and sound personnel management practices are in place Maintain a culture that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse team Finance Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices Work with the staff and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines and the proper accounting practices are followed Ensure that program and operational expenditures are properly balanced with fundraising/revenue Liaison with Auditors, including presentation of annual audit to the Board of Directors The Qualified Candidate:
Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels seeks a strategically focused, proven operational executive.
The successful candidate will have proven leadership experience with prior success in creating sustainable strategies in operations and organizational performance.
The selected candidate will be goal-oriented, collaborative, and a strategic thinker.
Specific Requirements Include:
Education and Experience Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university Five or more years of progressively responsible experience at a senior level in a non-profit or mission-focused setting with a proven track record in building relationships with community partners and agency stakeholders Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team and a strong base of volunteers Proven experience in responding to shifting funder and regulatory requirements Experience working with a volunteer board Competencies and Attributes Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment and diplomacy as well as maintaining the highest integrity and ethics Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with the philanthropic community and major donors Solid, persuasive verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver inspiring and succinct presentations and conduct productive meetings Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, a proven record of working collaboratively and diplomatically with others Demonstrated ability to build a diverse team and effectively manage, motivate, and mentor staff A strong sense of compassion and empathy for vulnerable older adults Strong business acumen; decision-making skills; ability to set priorities; process and project management skills Valid driver's license and vehicle Desired/Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Public Health, Health Care Administration, Social Work, or a related field A passion for working with older adults Job Type:
